When Does Target Restock? (Updates & Tips)

Target is one of the biggest retail chains in the world. It offers various products to meet the daily needs of customers. Your trip to Target becomes unpleasant when you see the things you want are out of stock. So, you want to shop before products run out. But, when does Target Restock

Target stores restock essential goods every night between 12 am to 6 am. The non-essentials are restocked three times a week. Although Target online does not have a specific restocking schedule, you can activate notifications.

In this article, I will discuss when target stores restock their goods. It will definitely help you understand when you should visit the stores to get your products.

What Target Items Are Often Restocked?

You probably wonder which items are in high demand at Target stores. In every store, daily essentials, like fresh produce, dairy, frozen food, snacks, toiletries, and personal care products, are in high demand. They often run out every day, so Target restocks them even multiple times a day.

Products that are often restocked daily or weekly depending on the demand of the customers are:

  • Highly Consumable Products (Toiletries, snacks, personal care products, etc.): Restocked overnight
  • Groceries (Food and Beverages): Restocked overnight
  • Housewares and Kitchen Items: Every 2-3 days
  • Fashion Accessories and Clothing items: Once or twice a week
  • Beauty products: Once a week
  • Electric Items: Twice a week
  • General Merchandise (Furniture, toys, household good, etc.): At least once a week

Target also sells seasonal products and products focusing on various occasions. The stores stock and sell these products for a specific time of a season or occasion. During this time, the stores restock the products upon demand.

When Does Target Restock?

You may want to know more about the days and times. Here are the details so that you know exactly when to shop.

Essential Goods

Target restocks the essential goods every night after the stores are closed. The time is usually between 12 am to 6 am before the next day’s business starts. So, choppers should visit the stores early in the morning to get their daily essential products.

People need essential goods every day. Hence, these items are always in high demand. The essential goods are:

  • Food (Fresh and frozen)
  • Baby Foods
  • Rice, wheat flour, oil, sugar, salt, and other cereals and pulses
  • Dairy products
  • Water
  • Medicines
  • Toilet paper
  • First Aid products
  • Sanitary products
  • Soaps and detergents
  • Toothpaste
  • Battery cells, and chargers

These essential products, as people can hardly live without them. They are important in sustaining life and maintaining good health. Customers need these products every day. Thus, they are sold out right after stores open. Therefore, shoppers arrive in the morning to buy necessary products.

The shipment trucks of daily essentials visit the stores arrive between 3 pm to 11 pm every day. Sometimes, it can be twice a day. When the products arrive at the stores, employees receive the products. Then they separate the products into perishables and others.

Perishable products get spoiled quickly. Therefore, they are stored in the refrigerator section of the inventory of Target stores. Other essentials are also stored in appropriate inventory.

All Target stores close by 10 pm. When the evening staff members finish their tasks, another group of employees comes to restock products on the shelves. They work from 12 am to 6 am. But when they are short on staff members, it may become 8 am by the time they finish restocking the shelves with goods.

The perishable goods are always restocked at the end so that they look fresh when customers come to buy them. If products are in the inventory and the shelves of the stores run low, employees restock them anytime.

Non-Essential Goods

Non-essential products and general merchandise products are not restocked daily like essential products. Target stores restock non-essential items mostly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Also, smaller Target stores and stores in remote locations receive stocks only on Mondays and Fridays.

Non-essential or general merchandise products are:

  • Electronic products
  • Housewares
  • Furniture
  • Toys
  • Plastic wars
  • Jewelry items
  • Shoes
  • Kitchen and home applications
  • Cooking wares
  • Readymade garments
  • Gift items
  • Sports items
  • Garden tools
  • Ammunitions

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, the employees stock up the non-essential items between 12 am to 6 am. The shipments on Fridays ensure there are products for the weekend's sale. Most non-essential products are sold during the weekends (Saturates and Sundays).

Consequently, the products are lowest on Mondays if the morning shipment does not arrive. After the shipments of Mondays come in, the employees restock the non-essential products for the next few days.

If you want to buy these products from Target, visit the stores on the days of restocking. However, you might be busy working on workdays. In that case, make sure to visit the stores early in the morning on weekends.

However, large items like furniture may take more time to restock. They take up a lot of space in the shipment trucks and cost extra to send to stores around the country. As a result, you will find a limited number of furniture displayed in the stores. Again, they are low in number, so they often get sold out.

Target restocks items based on their priority. Therefore, general merchandise like furniture, household items, and toys are not frequently restocked. Beauty products like make-up may also not be restocked regularly.

Mondays and Fridays are important days for restocking other non-essential products. Hence, shipments of large products most happen on Wednesdays. In some stores, the furniture may arrive on Mondays as well. Also, if a piece of furniture or any general merchandise is in high demand, Target may restock them to sell out on weekends.

So, visit a Target store on Tuesdays or Thursdays early in the morning to get your choice of furniture before anyone gets it.

Seasonal Products

Target sells not only essential and general products; it also sells seasonal products or products targeted for special occasions. However, these seasonal products are only restocked at specific times or seasons of the year.

You will find products for summer activities in summer, winter products and Christmas products in winter, Halloween costumes only in Fall, Valentine gifts and cards only in January and February.

So, you cannot expect to find Christmas decorations in summer or fall. Similarly, no Valentine cards in other months of the year. To get the products, you have to wait for next year.

These products occupy a lot of space in the stores. Hence, Target has to remove seasonal and occasional items after the special time is over to make space for their regular products.

However, while the season or occasion is running, Target restocks the items regularly as seasonal items get sold a lot. The stores restock candy, decorations, gift cards, and gifts for weeks. During this time, the shipments of seasonal products follow the same pattern as general merchandise trucks.

In most stores, the seasonal products arrive on Mondays and Fridays in the morning. Many people shop for these products on Mondays after restocking. Also, you should get these special products as soon as the season starts. The same products may not be available later that season.

But if you are looking for discount offers, visit the stores late in the season. Target stores offer huge discounts on their available seasonal products in clearance sales. However, you should buy the reusable items for the next occasion or buy some delicious candies.

What Days Does Target Receive Shipments?

Shipment trucks visit Target stores daily if there is a high demand for products. Essential products are restocked every day. However, as I have mentioned before, non-essential and general Mercedes items are typically shipped on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

In the past, essential products used to get refilled three or four days per week. But the demand for groceries, household essentials, and cleaning products has increased in recent years. Therefore, Target changed the shipment of essential products from three days to everyday.

If any shipment scheduled for Wednesday does not arrive on Wednesday, it gets delivered on Thursdays. Besides, some target stores are in remote areas. The non-essential products are shipped only on Mondays and Fridays to those remote locations.

Large and Heavy products are also delivered once or twice a week on Mondays and Fridays as they take more space and require more manpower.

Most shipments for Mondays arrive in the early morning. Shipments also arrive between 3 pm to 11 pm on the shipment days. But it is not always fixed when the trucks arrive. After the closing time of the stores, employees arrange products for the next day. Sunday is normally the day off for shipments.

When Does Target Restock Online?

There is not any exact schedule for Target’s online shopping stores. It depends on the manufacturers and when they send the products to Target.

You may visit Target Online to order products and find them out of stock. But do not stop yourself from ordering, as Target will prepare their next shipment according to the orders it receives.

Target will deliver your pending items to you as soon as the product is available. Target Online will send a notification via message or email before shipping your items.

So, you do not have to go to the stores or check their online page to check if products are in stock again. It will be delivered first to you and then displayed as stocked.

When you receive the notification about the restock, you can allow Target to deliver the product or cancel the order.

How Can You Get Notified When Target Restocks?

So, how do you know when a product is restocked? There are a few ways to find out if your desired product is available. You can call the nearby Target store and ask the help center. You can also visit Target Website for the product.

Another effective way to find out about restocks is by getting notifications from Target.com. You can sign up for notifications to get reminders about restocks of previously unavailable products.

You can find the option on Target Website or its Mobile Application. After signing up, Target will send you a notification through email, SMS, or the app.

When you get a notification, order right away to get the product. Other customers will also get the same notification. They may order the same products too. Hence, you must secure your product before it runs out of stock.

How Does Target Decide What and When to Restock?

Every Target store has a manager to oversee the product shelves and inventories. It is their responsibility to decide when to restock products. The products are restocked based on how fast they sell out and the prospect of customer demands.

Most essential products are bound to get restocked daily because of the high demand of the customers. High-demand groceries, cleaning products, and paper products are among those products.

Other products are restocked based on their popularity and shipment condition. The manager will consider the product demand, the time since the last order, and how much they may get sold in the future. Managers also restock items in a large number before a discount price is offered for them.

The employees and managers always keep a close count of the products available in the inventory. They count the products on the shelves and inventory every night after the business ends. When the inventory is low, the manager orders new shipments of products.

Tips on Buying Products At Target Before Being Sold Out

Visiting a store and finding out products are unavailable can be really frustrating. Now that you know when products sell out and get restocked, make good use of the information.

Here is how you can shop at a Target store before products are gone:

Shop on Specific Days

Now, you know how the restocking system works in Target stores. So, shop for your products wisely. The best days for shopping in Target stores are from Monday to Friday.

Also, Tuesday and Saturday mornings are the best time to find restocked products. Go grocery shopping early in the morning because others line up to get their groceries early in the morning too. If you arrive late, you will find many products already sold out.

Target starts its operation from 8 am and stays open till 10 pm. So, be present at the stores before 8 pm. Even then, you will find a long line of people!

Become Target Restock Member

Don’t enjoy visiting stores for shopping? Do not worry. Target understands some people gate grocery shopping. So, it launched a program, which is the Target Restock Program.

By becoming a member of the program, you can get your products delivered directly to your doorstep. If you are a Target REDcard member, you do not have to pay for the delivery service. You just have to pay for your shopping. Others have to pay $2.99 for the delivery service. Non-member can also order online.

Remember, the service is only for ordering essential products. The employees will pack the products right after the stores open. You can expect your groceries from the best picks.

Receive Notifications

Another way to know about restocks in Target is using the notification option of Target Online. You have to sign up to get an alert from Target. It means you do not have to visit the stores or bother any employees of Target to know when the products will get restocked.

When any item of your choice is back in the store, Target will send emails or notifications to you. Then, you can either visit the stores or order the products online. Whatever you do, you have to be fast. Otherwise, the products will get out of stock again.

Target often sells products in clearance sales. Even the discount offering days have a pattern. You can look for your desired products during these clearance sales. These products are often restocked on the shelves to clear out the inventory.
