You are probably acquainted quite well with Aldi. It is after all a hugely popular supermarket chain. If you shop around there frequently, you might have a crucial question as to what time does Aldi open.

On weekdays and Saturdays, Aldi stores open at 8:30 am, generally. They close at 7 pm. Of course, different stores across different locations might have different opening hours.

The above section might confuse you a bit. So, in this article, I am going to highlight at what time does Aldi open. I will also include specifications about holidays and whatnot. Hence, to be the best informed and to make your shopping experience easier, I would highly recommend reading the whole article.

At What Time Does Aldi Open?

All Aldi stores conduct their services for approximately 10 hours. As mentioned, Aldi opens its stores at 8:30 am and closes them at 7 pm. These are the general timings in the German region. If you are looking for further insight, you can also look into their official website here.

Opening Hours across Different Countries

Aldi stores operate at different opening and closing hours at differing times as you very well know by now. So, to make things clearer, I am including the timings for Aldi stores in different countries. I have included the general opening hours and they may vary across different regions within the country.

Italy: Entering the Italian market in 2018, Aldi started with only 10 stores. Now, there are approximately 66 stores in Northern Italy. The opening and closing hours are the same for all seven days of the week.

The Aldi stores open at 9 am and close at 8 pm. The stores dedicate the first hour of their business to catering more to the vulnerable shoppers. This only applies on Thursdays and Tuesdays.

Poland: Poland, Germany’s neighbour, has almost 140 stores of Aldi. Due to the Covid-19 crisis, some Aldi stores wanted to offer their services for longer periods. So, they started operating at even 6 or 7 in the morning. These stores shut around 10 pm.

Yet, on a general basis, for Sundays, the Aldi stores in Poland start at 11 am and close at 5 pm. From Monday to Wednesday, Aldi opens at 8:30 am and closes at 8 pm. The timing for Thursday is 8:30 am to 9 pm. The opening and closing hours for Friday are the same as the ones from Monday to Wednesday. On Saturdays, the stores open at 8:30 am and close at 5 pm.

Spain: Undoubtedly, one of the top supermarkets in Spain, the Aldi stores in this country open at 9 am and close at 9:30 pm. In most stores, the closing hours extend up to 10 pm. Not all Aldi stores are open on Sundays in Spain. Areas with the greatest traffic usually have Aldi open on Sunday, from 10 am-10 pm, with variations in most cases.

Scotland: Aldi has approximately 96 stores throughout Scotland. For Mondays till Saturdays, Aldi stores open at 8 am and close at 10 pm. On Sundays, the stores open at 9 am and close at 7 pm.

In my opinion, if you are in the mood to go on a shopping spree during holidays or vacation days, it is always better to contact Aldi beforehand. If you are looking for ways to contact them, you can find multiple options here.

Does Aldi Open on Sundays?

Under the Sunday Trading Act 1994, that is, under government rules and trading laws, large supermarkets are allowed to be open on Sundays for only 6 consecutive hours. As a result, Aldi stores open at 11 am and close at 5 pm. Do keep in mind that this applies to countries such as Wales and England.

In other countries, such as the United States of America, Aldi stores open at 9 am and close at 8 pm on Sundays. Aldi stores which are present in Northern Ireland can only operate from 1 pm to 6 pm on Sundays. Scotland stores of Aldi are not subjected to any trading laws.

Does Aldi Have Special Opening Hours?

Due to the crisis of Covid-19, Aldi had established special opening and closing hours. To maintain everyone’s safety and to abide by social guidelines, they had started to operate since 8:30 am.

Aldi had dedicated the first hour of business to only vulnerable shoppers, such as those of older age, NHS staff, and the Police and Fire Service. This was mainly done so on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They could also skip lines as long as they provided a valid ID.

In countries such as England and Wales, the elderly age group was given permission to browse only and not purchase anything from Aldi. Opening hours started 30 minutes earlier than the usual time of those regions from Monday to Saturday. Closing hours lasted till 10 pm. In Scotland, the people deemed vulnerable were allowed to purchase from Aldi.

Although those are no longer present. As more people get vaccinated and follow the proper lines, the COVID crisis is less of a threat for businesses such as Aldi than it had been in 2020.

So, Aldi no longer has special opening hours but the German supermarket chain store is actively working with Age UK to support the elderly shoppers and serve them better.

By now, you should have a clear idea as to what time does Aldi open. If not, I am sure you can use the store operators to figure out the timings of your regional Aldi stores.

I hope after reading this article, your shopping experience can be a little bit more convenient and that you won’t have to be in awkward situations waiting by the gates for the Aldi stores to open. Happy shopping!
